Doing is Believing! Get Your D.I.B.s on Teamwork!
Teamwork—it’s one of those business competencies that gets talked about a lot, but it can mean very different things depending on your definition of “team.”
Technology has made teamwork more complex, enabling far-flung teams across the world to collaborate. We’ve even worked on teams where we never met our fellow team members face-to-face!
So how do you get “D.I.B.s” on Teamwork?
A Real-World Example of Teamwork in Action
One of our clients wanted to get more out of their sales force—without taking time away from selling.
Their data showed that “moving the middle” would have the biggest impact.
Their approach?
✔ Leave the high performers alone.
✔ Forget about the laggards.
✔ Focus on the high-potential “middle performers.”
How They Did It: Virtual Teams & Weekly Challenges
🚀 Step 1: Virtual teams were formed, and participants received weekly challenges.
💡 Step 2: Each challenge was directly applicable to the salespeople’s real-world selling situations.
📈 Step 3: By completing these challenges, salespeople saw a tangible improvement in their daily sales performance.
Meanwhile, a virtual knowledge community began forming—where participants:
✔ Received coaching from an expert career coach
✔ Got peer feedback on their sales strategies
✔ Learned from the rest of the virtual community
The Power of Teamwork in Action
The dispassionate coaching we provided as a neutral third party was augmented by peer-to-peer coaching—from people who came together solely for the purpose of training.
This was done in groups of 20 participants at a time, and after many sessions, the results were staggering:
💰 Millions of dollars in increased opportunities in the forecast pipeline.
And all of this happened because small groups of 20 people came together—enabled by teamwork—to take their abilities to the next level.
